TOWER OF BABEL
(Part 1)

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.  And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name,

lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

      And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language;

and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

So the Lord scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

      Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth;

and from there did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."  Genesis 11:1-9

“Babel” means confusion.

The Tower of Babel represents the confusion that results in our lives when we try to enter into the heavenlies or the Kingdom of God by physical means. Man instinctively knows that he should live in perfect peace, love, joy, health and abundance etc. However, he all too often tries to bring these things into his life by physical means and by doing things his way. He tries to enter into this heavenly state of life by executing his own will in his life.

One day several years ago I was getting dressed and had nothing particular on my mind when out of the blue the Lord spoke to me in a very distinct voice and said, “The Tower of Babel was a "will tower".”  I was taken aback because it had never occurred to me to look at this account in this light.  As I meditated on it, the things related in this article were given to me.

As I previously stated, the Tower Of Babel represents us trying to ascend into the heavenlies by using our faith and our confession and our own carnal or physical understanding to execute or bring into manifestation our will in our lives.  It was a physical tower made of physical bricks and mortar.  The sane mind knows that it is ridiculous to try to build a physical tower to get into the heavens where God is.  We can't ascend into the heavens (or Kingdom Of Heaven where exists peace, happiness, joy, fulfillment, abundance, etc.) by our own will and our own devices, for when we do, confusion in our lives will most certainly be the result.  And just like at the Tower of Babel, when confusion reigns, nothing gets accomplished.

When God confused the languages, it represents the confusion in our own lives when we try to do things our way, according to our own will and according to our carnal reasoning.  If we were perfectly submitting to the will of God in our lives, no confusion would ever result.  We wouldn't make the mistake of trying to build a physical tower composed of our own will constructed with the bricks of our own carnal thoughts and held together by the mortar of our own understanding.  Confusion arises when we try to fight the will of God with our faith and confession, and use our faith and confession to control physical things in such a way that matches our will for our lives, and not His.  We can execute OUR WILL because God said that nothing man imagined in his heart to do would be withheld from him (Genesis 11:6).  When we do this, however, the results are heartache, pain, and misery.  The reason for the negative results is that we are building a physical tower instead of a spiritual one.  We are operating our faith and confession based upon what we can understand in the natural.  We are leaning to our own understanding.  Because we tend to be carnal or ruled by our five senses, we are not in a position to decide for ourselves what we need or don't need.  In other words, we are not qualified to exalt ourselves into the heavenlies.  Any tower we try to build to get there (which is where we belong) will be as ridiculous as man trying to build a physical tower to reach God and the heavenly state he was ordained to live in.  Man instinctively knows that he must live on a higher plane; he just doesn't know, apart from the Spirit of God, how to get there.

But God reveals through His Word that in order to be exalted, man must first humble himself and submit to God's Perfect will for his life.  Just like Jesus did when He went to the cross, we must die to all our hopes, dreams, and aspirations.  We must die to what we want, or at least what we think we want.  Remember Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane before His crucifixion that "this cup might pass from me."  He didn't want to have to go through it.  But He also realized that the only way to be resurrected into glory was to die to His wants and desires, and to submit to the will of the Father.  He did this when He then said, "Not my will, but thine be done."

Thank God that Jesus submitted to the will of the Father and set us free from our sins and enabled us to live in victory instead of defeat.

Think for a moment, what would it have been like to have been working on the Tower of Babel.  One minute, everyone is in agreement, everyone understands the other perfectly.  You are working in harmony with your coworkers.  Suddenly, you can't understand what is going on.  The man working next to you is saying something, but you can't understand what.  Does he want you to place this brick over here on this foundation, or use it over there on that one?  Did that man say we need more straw for the brick or that we had too much in this batch already?  There are voices everywhere shouting orders to you, but you don't know which way to turn.

You are shouting back in your frustration, but no one understands you.  BABEL means confusion, and this is the confusion which starts to operate in our lives when we are trying to build our own tower.  All we must do to get rid of the confusion and let God exalt us into the heavenlies where there is perfect peace, perfect love and joy, etc. is to turn loose and say, "Father, not my will but your will be done."

Change your confession to "God's perfect will is always done in my life" and you will walk in peace, and confusion will be dissipated.

The "old man" (the carnal part of you which operates after physical fleshly ideas and understandings) and the "ego" will attempt to fight the Will of God with confusion.  He is afraid of God's will because he knows that if God's will is done, he must die.  Therefore, he comes as an angel of light.  The things he says make sense (and appear to be light) to the carnal mind because they are based upon physical observations and what appears to be true in the natural realm.  But real truth is spiritual and often has nothing to do with what we may be observing in the natural or what appears to be truth in the natural.  Therefore the flesh wars against the spirit, and confusion is the result.

That is. the ideas and concepts of the flesh, the understandings and seductions that come from the physical realm are in conflict with the Word of God or the Revelations of God to us, thus resulting in confusion.  Once again, until we totally submit to the will of God in our lives, no matter what it is, we will live in a state of confusion being spoken to by languages from all over the "world" (or the world system in our lives).

Jesus said in John 14:13-14, "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it."  If that is so, why aren't all our prayers answered?  Don't we always submit our requests to God in the name of Jesus?  Don't most Christians always dutifully end each prayer with the words In Jesus Name?  So what is the problem here?

When you are operating in the name of someone, whether it be a ruler, a governing body, or just a company or corporation, it indicates that you are operating in the authority vested in you by that company or governing body.  You are operating not in your own authority, but in the authority vested in you by that organization. For instance, I work for a large corporation.  I have a position of responsibility in that corporation.  When I make a decision the corporation backs me up totally and sees that the decision I made is carried out.  However, this corporation has company policy or company rules and regulations that it has laid down to govern the operation of that company.

These policies are designed with the good of the company, its employees, its clients, and the general public in mind (as well they should be).  But, if I make a decision which is totally outside the guidelines laid down by the company, and a decision which might result in harm to the company, its employees, its clients, or the general public, the corporation I work for will not lend its authority to that decision and will not back me up.  I will be left hanging out there on my own.  In other words, my prayer or my will in this matter will not be honored or answered.

The same is true in our relationship with God.  We are His servants, empowered to act on His behalf in this earth.  As long as we are acting within the policies and guidelines that have been laid down in His corporate manual known as The Holy Bible, He will back us up to the hilt.  However, the one thing which God can't do is go against His Word.  He can't lend His authority to anything which is not HIS WILL.  We can't fight the Will of God, or build our own tower based on what we can understand in the natural and get away with it.  He won't back us up, and He won’t answer that prayer.

There is another aspect to this also.  Our true will is in perfect accord with the will of God.  The spirit man is the part of you which came from God.  He is not deceived by anything.  All deception and seduction occurs in the soul.  The spirit man knows the will of God and tries to communicate that perfect will to the soul (the soul being that part of you which is in contact with the natural realm...the conscious mind where conscious thought and reasoning’s occur, the will, and the emotions).  The soul is the one who must make the decision to receive that perfect word of love, faith, wisdom and understanding, or listen to the input from the flesh just as Eve did in the Garden of Eden.  When input from the flesh or natural realm is followed, confusion is the result because there are voices from all over the world system (worldly ideas and concepts which have been established in your soul) who are speaking to you, some yelling at you.  It is just like the situation at the tower of Babel.

In addition, the Spirit of God in you is also speaking to your soul trying to lead you.  He knows what is best for you and has your ultimate good, as well as the good of everyone else involved, in mind.  The soul, however, tends to listen to or be influenced by the flesh.  When I say "the flesh", I mean knowledge or input from the five senses.  In other words, making decisions, and living your life based upon what you can see with your physical eyes, hear with your physical ears, touch, taste, smell etc.

Knowledge and understanding gained from the physical realm is the criteria upon which most people base their decisions and live their lives.  Unfortunately, understanding based solely upon fleshly input is not absolute truth.  Everything in the natural realm is in a state of change or decay.  NOTHING IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD IS ETERNAL!

Consequently, nothing in the physical world can be depended upon to be absolute truth.  Only the things of the Spirit are eternal.  God's Word is Eternal.  It is the only thing that is unchanging and is absoulte truth, because it is by His Word that everything was created.  Read Genesis the first chapter.  All things created were SPOKEN into existence.

It is His Word that sustains the whole universe.  It is His Word from which spiritual law is derived as well as the laws that govern the physical universe.  All things in the physical realm came from the spirit realm because God created the heavens and the earth, and God is a Spirit!  Therefore, the only absolute truth must be spiritual truth, because all other so-called truth, knowledge, and understanding which we experience in the physical realm only exists because of what took place or is taking place in the spirit realm.

We can be fooled or enter into confusion because something may seem like the right thing to do based upon observations of the physical realm.  We look at circumstances or listen to what other people say or believe and make our decisions based upon these things.  But more often than not, these decisions made based upon physical or fleshly input turn out to be mistakes.

We must learn to submit to the Perfect Will of God.  Our confession should be not that such n' such will happen, but that the PERFECT WILL OF GOD will be done in our lives.  Then we must seek to walk in that will and submit to that will by entering into the spirit through prayer and meditation.  Seek the peace of God in the spirit, and follow that peace.  Clear your mind or soul of all physical circumstances, shut out the voices that are speaking to you, and seek only His voice.  "My sheep know My voice," says the Lord.  When you hear His voice, there will be peace and confusion will end.  Then FOLLOW THAT VOICE and He will exalt you into the heavenlies!

TOWER OF BABEL
(Part 2)

11:1  And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2  And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3  And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

4  And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5  And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6  And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do

7  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8  So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9  Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

The word “Babel” means confusion.

As I was praying and meditating on the Tower Of Babel last night what I got was that the people were trying to build a physical tower into the heavenlies.  Read that as they were trying to build a physical tower to attain heaven or the Kingdom of God.  In other words, they were trying to attain the Kingdom of God by physical means.  Note that they were trying to build a city as well as a tower.  A city is a dwelling place.  In that day and time a city was desirable because it was a place to feel safe and secure from thieves, bandits and marauders.

In the natural, we all want the same things as the people who tried to build the Tower Of Babel.  Jesus said, "The law and the prophets were until John, since then the Kingdom of God is preached and EVERY MAN PRESSES INTO IT!"  (Luke 16:16)  Note that it's not just some people that are trying to attain the things of the kingdom, but every man!  Everybody wants joy, happiness, love, peace and fulfillment.  Everyone wants abundance of good things, money, health etc.  There is nothing wrong with having these good things.  What is wrong is how we try to attain them.  If we are trying to attain the things that only the Kingdom of God can provide and we are trying to do it through physical means, then we too are trying to build a Tower Of Babel.

Many people attain great wealth through physical means, but even though they may have wealth, they still don't have happiness and contentment.  Why is that?  It is because they built their city (meaning their spiritual city where they dwell) and their tower (that got them to this supposed elevated state in their life) by using physical bricks and mortar.

As I said, we all make this mistake at some point and even many well meaning Christians may make this mistake every day of their lives.  People use their jobs, physical relationships, pass times and entertainment, drugs, food, and the list is endless.  All are trying to attain the benefits and rewards of the Kingdom of God by physical means using physical bricks and mortar.  Some people even use religion!  They are in church every time the doors open trying to find it there.  But their religion is of the flesh.  It consists of physical actions and deeds and the keeping of physical laws and commandments and they think that God will award them Brownie points for these things  But physical deeds and religious observances that aren’t motivated by a loving heart for God and fellow man are worthless.

In the natural they hear, Lo, here is Christ and lo, he is over there (Mark 13:21-22).  But they fail to find Him.  Jesus said, don't listen to them, go not after them.  He isn't in any of these physical things and pursuits.  The Kingdom Of Heaven, what every man is pressing into, simply can't be obtained by physical means and physical efforts.  The tower leading to the Kingdom Of God must be built with spiritual bricks on a spiritual foundation.  It must be built upon the foundational "Rock" of Christ and revelation of Him.

When we try to build our city and our tower by physical means, when we try to attain the Kingdom of God by using physical elements, it never works.  It always leads to confusion!  And that's not to mention disappointment, worry and fear.

In summation, I personally spent many years trying to build that physical tower into the heavenlies, but it never succeeded.  All I heard was confusion because I was listening to men and concepts of men which were of the flesh.  Do it this way or do it that way and you will succeed.  This thing will bring success or happiness or this person or job or activity or endeavor, or, it is over there in another place.  Yes, the flesh will always say, Lo, here is Christ or Lo, He is over there.  But believe it not and go not after them(those voices from the fleshly realm)!  For they are false Christs!  The only way to enter into the Kingdom is to do it the way Jesus instructed:  Seek first the Kingdom Of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.  The things we all so desire in our life like, peace, happiness and contentment will only come as we seek first the Kingdom Of God.  It must be obtained spiritually, not physically.  And, when we do finally begin to attain the Kingdom spiritually, guess what.  Not only do we get the spiritual benefits of peace, love, happiness, joy and contentment, the physical things begin to be added as well.  Praise God!

In Psalms 18:2 David said that God was his high tower.  When we abandon false christs and begin to build a spiritual tower on a spiritual foundation using spiritual elements and revelations of Him and His Word, we can enter into the Kingdom Of God and will see the New Jerusalem, that Holy City coming down from heaven.  The new city will come to you and in it you wil! dwell in peace and safety forever!

Praise God!
