"Bring Me To
Life"
by Evanescence

How can you see into my eyes like open
doors?
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
-CHORUS-
[Wake me up] Wake me up inside
[I can't wake up] Wake me up inside
[Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark
[Wake me up] Bid my blood to run
[I can't wake up] Before I come undone
[Save me] Save me from the nothing I've become
Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life
-CHORUS-
[Wake me up] Wake me up inside
[I can't wake up] Wake me up inside
[Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark
[Wake me up] Bid my blood to run
[I can't wake up] Before I come undone
[Save me] Save me from the nothing I've become
{Bring me to life
[I've been living a lie..There's nothing inside]
{Bring me to life
Frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead
[All of this I, I cant believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me]
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
[Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul]
{Don't let me die here (It must be something wrong)
Bring me to life
-CHORUS-
[Wake me up] Wake me up inside
[I can't wake up] Wake me up inside
[Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark
[Wake me up] Bid my blood to run
[I can't wake up] Before I come undone
[Save me] Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life
[I've been living a lie.. There's nothing inside]
Bring me to life
This song from the Grammy winning Evanescence was fairly popular on contemporary rock stations not too long ago. When I first heard it I was amazed and heartened to hear such spirituality coming across the mainstream airwaves. This song and others like it reaffirms my strong belief that Christ and the Kingdom of God are growing in the hearts of men (and women!). The female rocker, Amy Lee, is the lead singer of Evanescence. Most of her album carries a spiritual message, which is especially true of the song "Tourniquet" where she sings, "My God, my tourniquet. Return to me salvation." Now, it should be clear what the message is of this Song of the Week-- GOD, WAKE ME UP!
Ephesians 5:13
But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it
is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:
"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will
shine on you."
This one of my favorite passages because it cuts right to the heart of the matter- we are dead. This is hard for some to accept. What is even harder is that humanity has fallen into the place for the dead, which is also known as Hades. Amy has it right when she sings, "Without a soul- My spirit sleeping somewhere cold-Until you find it there and lead it back....home." So "dead" really means an unconscious spirit. The dead are unconscious (unaware) of God, but many are beginning to wake. They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. And this is exactly what Amy sings about. We must wake up to our life, who is Christ- the only "life from among the dead."
Colossians 3:1
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on
things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you
died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When
Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with
him in glory.
Our life has always been in Christ, hidden like that priceless treasure. Eventually we are all led to find our true life. Christ is the one that makes us real because He is the Word of God that can "breathe into me and make me real." You see, we are like characters in a dream, but we can wake up within that dream and realize who we truly are. We are just like Jesus because we too are being annointed by God to called sons of God. We all collectively are being resurrected as the Body of Christ.
Colossians 1:18
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning
and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he
might have the supremacy.
Jesus was the first to be raised from among the SPIRITUALLY dead. Please understand that many long before Jesus were raised from a physical death. This still happens today, but it is our spirit, our true self, that must be resurrected from the grave, saved from the dark. As the children of God wake up, one by one, the Father hears their call and comforts them. This is what being "born of the Spirit" truly means- when we come out of the womb of darkness and death into a new and higher life!
Time to rise and shine with the light of Christ!
