"Oyster"
by Rick Altizer
(click above link to listen)

Lonely in the red blazing sun
Waiting for the moonlight to come
Kneeling in the sand all undone

Lovely fool, I can see you crying
All your tears are Mine

Pearls from pebbles form
Take your time, oyster in the sand
Let the seed be sown
It will rise
Lift your eyes and watch the tide's parade

Slowly souls are polished to white
Slowly darkness gives way to light
Slowly patience harvests the night

Sunburnt saint, take My benediction
Bless the sea again

Pearls from pebbles form
Take your time, oyster in the sand
Let the seed be sown
It will rise
Lift your eyes and watch the tide's parade

No this isn't the Beach Boys! This unique little song is found on a rather unconventional album called "Surfonic Water Revival."  Now you might think that this would be the last place to find any deep spiritual insight, but you would be wrong.  Several years ago various artists wrote and performed a collection of surfing style songs with a strong Christian current flowing through them.   There are several songs on this CD that are very worthy of listening to like "Into the Deep" by Terry Scott Taylor, "Wave Perfect" by Smalltown Poets, "Gold Coast" sung by Rebecca St. James and of course this one- "Oyster" written and sung by Rick Altizer.  So why "Oyster?"

Well, the point being made here is that we are all developing, growing and moving toward perfection spiritually.  Like the pearl that grows inside of the oyster, so is perfection growing inside of us whether we are aware of it or not.  The "seed" sown in us is Christ that will produce this perfection. The Spirit of Christ is the pearl of great price that is within us all! When we find Christ, we find our life and our perfection!

2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

Not only will God be with us, but God will live through us! Our aim is to share in the life and reality of Christ. I particularly like the part that sings- "Slowly souls are polished to white; slowly darkness gives way to light; slowly patience harvests the night."  Sometimes we are that "lovely fool" that just can't see what God is doing in our lives.  We are ALL saints in the making!  We are ALL being polished to white.  We are ALL going to be harvested and brought into the Kingdom of God!  God will have it no other way.  Our God is the God of all or nothing.  God is all in all and nothing stands in the way of His perfect will.  So "lift your eyes and watch the tide's parade."  Feel God working in you to do His perfect will and to bring about your perfection in the life and reality of Christ.
