"Fight the Good Fight"
by Triumph
(click above link to listen)

The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the lines
Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay
The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart
Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:
Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way
All your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you can

You think a little more money will buy your soul some rest
You'd better think of something else instead
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself
You'd better take a look inside your head
Nothing is easy, nothing good is free
But I can tell you where to start
Take a look inside your heart
There's an answer in your heart
CHORUS

This old rock song used to energize my soul because its lyrics rang true in my spirit. I was in high school when this song hit the airwaves. I instantly fell in love with its powerful message of truth, and it remains one of my favorite songs. It is a song of encouragment in a world of darkness. Now, I wasn't raised by a religious family, but to my spirit (true self) that didn't really matter. My inner hunger for God and His truths led me to seek out spiritual songs and truths. So before I ever listened to "Christian music" I was listening to spiritual music from artist such as Kansas, Moody Blues, Yes and this one from Triumph.

By most standards of then and now this song would be called a "secular" song, but every child of God knows that truth is all around us if we have the eyes to see it, and of course, the ears to hear it. It wasn't until many years later that I discovered that this song was based on a letter from Paul.

1 Timothy 6:11

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own time--God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

The last sentence of this passage could possibly be the longest found in the Good Book. Even if it is not the longest it is certainly long on truth. Paul says that God gives life to everything, which is another way of saying that God is all in all. The spirit of all things is their reality and this is from God, who ALONE is immortal. If anyone desires immortality he must enter into oneness with God. For more information on this, ask Jesus.

What Paul and Triumph are trying to do is inspire us with the Truth of God. We are the masters of our own destiny because we chose sin, hell and death, but we shall also choose forgiveness, heaven and life through Christ who lives in us. Our "magic" and our power is in our hearts (our spirits). It is there where God is alive and empowering us to do good things and to fight that good fight in every moment in this world. Each one of us is a part of the master plan of God, and when we each have matured and are carrying out God's will we are part of the Body of God. Yes many in this world are still trying to find peace through material wealth, but that will not do. Nothing in this world can satisfy our spirit from a higher world. The spirit of man desires to return home to heaven to be with God. What Jesus found and every other person will find is that this isn't easy, but it is, however, inevitable. As the song says, the place to start is in your heart (spirit). There is your true self made in the image of God. There is where God will guide you and strengthen you to fight the good fight!

We are all in this together,
