God and water- the Givers of Life
God's glory is higher than the heavens, and His mysteries are deeper than deep. But slowly God is revealing to us His heart, His wisdom and His Perfect Plan for mankind. He has been using our physical world that we "know" to explain the higher truths. Many refer to these as TYPES and SHADOWS. Now understand that types and shadows are NOT the true reality, but represent a higher truth that was above our understanding. God is lifting us up into these higher truths that have been hidden from man, but are now revealed in Christ.
I believe that WATER tells us much about God and His character. As God planned it, water is the life-giver in our physical world. The HIGHER truth is that God is the only true Life-giver. In many ways, God uses TRINITIES to describe Himself and His creation. We see this in how He created the universe composed of space, matter and time. We see this in how He created man with spirit, soul and body. We see this in His Tabernacle where there was the outer court, the inner court and the Most Holy Place. We see this in the Jewish Feasts: Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles. We see this in His names, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Now, this article is not going to debate the "God is three persons" doctrine, but nevertheless, water is a shadow that may help us understand God. You see there are many characteristics about water that are so unique and wonderful that they truly do parallel God as a shadow. First consider that God is described as Father, Son and Holy Spirit while WATER is described in three forms: vapor, water and ice. God exists everywhere at once be Him seen or unseen. Water is the ONLY substance on this earth that does exist in ALL three forms simultaneously! Conditions are such on earth that only water can be found in gaseous, liquid and solid forms. For all other elements naturally found on the earth, it is either too hot or too cold for them to exist in these forms.
Our God, the FATHER is greater than the Son and the Spirit He sends into the world (JN 14:28). I believe that our Father is represented by water VAPOR. Water vapor is the HIGHEST form of water. It is everywhere yet remains unseen. Both rain (liquid water) and snow (solid water) are created from this INVISIBLE form of water just as the Son and Spirit are manifested from our unseen Father in heaven.
The Holy Spirit is akin to what all life needs- water. The Holy SPIRIT brings God's life to ALL that it desires where as WATER (liquid) is the supporter of ALL life on earth. The Holy Spirit lives in all the "living" of God and water is in every living creature. The Holy Spirit is sent from the Father to do His will on earth. Water is sent from the CLOUDS (condensed VAPOR) to rain on the earth. The Holy Spirit is used to baptize (wash) our inner souls while water is used to wash our outer, natural bodies.
Now consider the Son compared to ICE. Jesus Christ is the manifestation of God, and ice is the SOLID form of liquid water and invisible water vapor. Jesus Christ is the Rock and solid. The world saw Him and felt Him. Jesus Christ is perfect, pure, without blemish or sin. He is the Perfect Image of His Father. Snow (solid water) is white by nature (God). It reflects ALL Light to be WHITE in our eyes. Jesus Christ reflects our Father in complete perfection- WHITE and BRILLIANT!
An interesting thing about ICE is that it RISES! Most substances become more dense when they are cooled, but water is an exception as was Christ! Water is the most dense (heaviest) at 4 degrees Celsius and below this temperature it gets lighter. This is significant because if it didn't act in this unique way, we would have no life on our planet! Because of this marvelous quality, ice RISES and forms at the TOP of lakes, seas and oceans- the WATER. If ice formed at the bottom of oceans, it would only increase and eventually all water would freeze which would break the life cycle on earth. But ICE rises just as the Son RISES! Jesus Christ who was filled with the Holy Spirit ROSE above death and this world so that we could have LIFE! Without ICE rising no natural life would exist and without Christ we have no spiritual life! One other characteristic of ICE is that it preserves natural things. Woolly mammoths have been preserved in ice for hundreds of thousands of years. In Jesus Christ, we are preserved from sin and decay of our souls!
Not only does ICE rise, but so does water that is evaporated. The water of the earth is full of "earthly" things like dirt, debris and minerals. But the water that is lifted up by the heat of the Sun is free of "earthly" material as it is lifted from the earth. It is much like distilled water. In the same way, man is being spiritually "distilled" by being drawn up from his earthly nature into a heavenly one that is free of "dirt." Also this evaporated water, which is invisible, forms into clouds which are seen as white. In many places, God appears in a Cloud to man. Also clouds in several passages in the Bible may represent the saints of God.
DA7:13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like the son of man coming with the clouds of heaven."
REV 1:7 "Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him..."
These "clouds" have been raised from the "earth" into the heavens and are pure by the power of the Son! Jesus Christ is carried with and IN these clouds! Further, these holy clouds of God, carry His Living Water to rain upon the earth to bring forth MORE life! This is like a spiritual hydrological cycle!
There is no doubt that WATER is a miracle substance that God has placed here as a shadow of Himself! Water equals life, but the higher Truth is that GOD = LIFE! There is no real life apart from God. Looking even closer at water, we see that it is made up of three atoms- hydrogen/oxygen/hydrogen. Again an expression of a trinity. Also consider that HYDROGEN is the BASE element of our physical universe. ALL elements and matter can be created from or broken down to HYDROGEN. The atom in water that is surrounded by hydrogen is OXYGEN. This element is our breath. It is needed to support ALL flesh on the earth just as God supports ALL life by His Spirit.
Looking into the Scriptures we see many examples of God using "WATER" to describe Himself, His creation and His relationship with mankind. The first account of this is in the very first line of the Bible:
GE 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Here we read that the earth was formless and empty, but the "waters" already existed. God brought forth life from the "waters." This of course parallels how God brings forth a new life, a spiritual life only through Christ and His Spirit. Also notice that God was ABOVE the waters as the REALITY is always above the shadow. Water is God's shadow on the earth. All that is seen in this physical world was created from water.
2 Pet 3:5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
We also read that water is used to clean or baptized that which was unclean. God was again showing us a "shadow of things to come." Once water was used to cleanse the priests, the sinners and the sacrifices, but this was just the "shadow" of the higher reality.
NUM 19:11 "Whoever touches the dead body of anyone will be unclean for seven days. 12 He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then he will be clean.
NUM 8:5 The LORD said to Moses: 6 "Take the Levites from among the other Israelites and make them ceremonially clean. 7 To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing on them; then have them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes, and so purify themselves.
God here was showing mankind the shadow of things to come, but now we have been shown the reality that Jesus Christ came to CLEAN, or BAPTIZE us with the Holy Spirit.
JN 1:33 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, `The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' 34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God."
During the Old Covenant this "cleaning," or baptism was essential for life which of course points to the higher truth that there is no life except through Christ.
EX 30:17 Then the LORD said to Moses, 18 "Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it. 20 Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made to the LORD by fire, 21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come."
God is showing us that we must be "cleaned" with His Holy Spirit before coming into His Presence. No one can look unto God's face. Abraham couldn't, Moses couldn't. Lot's wife was turned to stone when she looked upon the hand of God at work. This of course may remind us that there is "bitter" water from the Lord as well as "sweet" water. The bitter water is the Lord's wrath, vengeance and anger while the sweet water is His blessing, grace and peace.
NUM 5:23" 'The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. 24 He shall have the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water will enter her and cause bitter suffering.
EX 15:25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
The baptismal aspect of water has taken many forms. The Great Flood, the passing through the Red Sea and the priestly practices are all shadows showing WATER as a cleaner. The reality is that God will clean us with His Spirit (Great Flood) and Christ's blood (Red Sea). In the Great Flood, the evil men of the world were taken away. In the same way, God will FLOOD His creation with His Spirit to destroy all sin and death!
ACTS 2:17 "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people..."
ISA 52:10 The LORD will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
HAB 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
What God calls the "LIVING WATER" is His Life found in His Son, Jesus Christ- the Rock that was struck. Here is the shadow then later came the Reality- Jesus Christ being struck.
NUM 20:9 So Moses took the staff from the LORD's presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?" 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.
1CO 10:1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
The "Living Water" is precious to God and is given as a gift to us because of His love for us.
JER 2:13 "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
JN 4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."
JN 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the feast. Jesus stood and said in a loud voice. "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those Who believed in him were later to receive.
So we should understand that water is the physical shadow of our God who is Spirit and Love. Like our One God, it is unique, is manifested in many ways and above all is needed for life. Now some appear to carry WATER (life) but they are DRY (dead) spiritually like false teachers.
2PE 2:17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.
2 SAM 14:14 Like water spilled on the ground. which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life: instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.
It is clear that God created us in His image to express His life in us. He is not going to place most of His creation and His image into an everlasting torture pit. God DEVISES and has already DEVISED a "WAY" of escaping our personal hells that Way being Christ! It should be our hope that God through Christ and the power of His Spirit will bring His life giving Water to ALL He has created. The Giver of life will do just that! Read and believe!
REV 21:6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega. the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
Christ is the Spring of the Water of Life! And He has paid the FULL price, so we can drink from God's spring without cost- it is completely FREE! Thanks be to God! His Spirit will be poured out on ALL flesh like water unto a desert. He will bring His life to ALL he has created in His image. All Praise and Glory to the Giver of LIFE! Anyone thirsty for True Life? God's life is FREE!
His peace and understanding be with you,
This was one of my first writings when I was just beginning to see and understand God's plan. I am always learning and growing by the grace of God. For this reason, I must now clear up a small matter concerning the Father, Son and Holy Spirit relationship seen in the life-giving substance called water.
If we are to see the trinity of God represented in water then we must see that the Father is represented by water vapor; the Son (Christ) is represented by liquid (living) water and the Holy Spirit is represented by ice. This is not the order I have above in the article, but this is the order of truth in both science and in Spirit. The confusion comes because of the difficulty differentiating between Christ and Jesus. Christ (the Word of God) is the only begotten Son of God. Yet Jesus is the personification of Christ. As I correctly wrote in the above artive so many years ago, Jesus being a physial man did represent the solid form of God, but Jesus was the Word made flesh. In other words, Jesus was Christ made human, which is to say that Christ (water) took the form of the man Jesus (ice) in this world. So, more clearly we should see that the Son (Christ) is represented by WATER and not ICE in this world. Christ (water) coming in this lower world (state) was revealed to us in solid form through Jesus.
Again when I was inspired to write the above article, I did not clearly express this distinction between Jesus and Christ. Jesus is the man brought to life by the Holy Spirit in this lower state of consciousness. In the same way, ice is the lowest state of water, so this world is the world of the Holy Spirit. All things were given life in this world by Christ through the Holy Spirit, who is the Helper. Christ is the Living Water that floats ICE, just as the spirit of Christ lifted Jesus up above death and this world. Also we can see that Jesus sacrificed himself just as ice melts to become water. For all who thirst, Christ Jesus is the Living Water.
I hope this has cleared up this relationship. God is truly seen in water as both are the givers of life. However, Jesus should be seen as the Word (Christ) made flesh- water made ice. God's only Son is not simply Jesus, but is Christ, who is the Word and Image of God. Understanding this subtle difference we can see more clearly the relationship of God and water. The Father is the highest form- VAPOR. The Son is the living form- LIQUID. And the Holy Spirit is the lowest, physical form- ICE.
